Game Rules (reference only)

Object

Make canastas (sets of 7 of a kind).

A natural/clean canasta has no wild cards, a dirty canasta has 5–6 matching cards plus 1–2 wild cards. A partnership needs at least two canastas to go out.

Card Values

4 to 7 = 5 · 8 to Kings = 10 · Aces = 20 pts · 2s (deuces wild) = 20 pts · Jokers 50

Points Needed to Meld

Initial meld 125 · 3,000+ per team 155 pts needed · 5,000+ per team 180 pts needed · 8,500 wins the game

Threes (per colour)

1 = 100 · 2 = 300 · 3 = 500 · 4 = 1,000

  • All 8 threes (both colours) = 3,000
  • Threes only score if your partnership closes at least two canasta
  • One canastas mean you forfeits the 3 bonus (they are neutral)
  • No canastas at all, 3's count against you and you must deduct everything in your hand and on the table.

Play Notes

You may not discard a 7, an Ace, or a card from a closed canasta into an empty tray, and you must always have a discard. Wild cards can only be discarded if they're the last cards in your hand. The dealer's team gets +100 if the deal comes out to an exact 13x4 split.
